Is it better to be a value investor or a growth investor? Hello everyone. I'm just starting investing in stocks and wanted to see if anyone could give me some advice. There is just so much information out there that it's really hard to take in everything. I read in some books that the best way to invest is to find undervalued companies that have good fundamentals and will eventually come back to it's true value; meaning you will eventually make a big return once it gets back to it's true price(Value Investing). I also hear on the other hand that the best way to invest is to get in on companies with great upside like Google, Baidu, Blackstone, etc.(Growth investing). The problem with that is...I'm scared that once I do get in, that I will have got in too late. For all you investors out there that have been doing it for awhile, what do you suggest? I know Warren Buffett and Phil Town are all about the Value Investing so I can't go wrong with that philosophy. However, I know that there are others that are big on upside. Help!!! Thanks
what is capital growth in investing? apparently its some sort of strategy but does anyone know what it actually is? i know the actual definition but apparently its also the name for doing something to try and get capital growth
What are the advantages and isadvantages of investing in a growth or income stock? I have to write an essay for my Personal Finance class. I am writting about McDonald and Burger King. For one of my paragraphs I have to Comparew and Contrast the companies' stocks by explaining the advantages and disadvanteges of investing in a growth or income stock. So can you please answer my question and if possible write a website that I can site that I got my answer from.
Is it best to invest for income or growth ? Given a imaginary lump sum - say £200k - if you choose to invest in unit trusts over the long term and want to live off what it could produce. Would you be better investing in income trusts and taking the income or investing all in growth and selling lumps as its needed (and maybe when the market is high).
Is this good way of investing and if yes when should I buy? Friends, I would like to invest some money. I am thinking about following approach. Buy 25 to 30 shares of 8 to 10 large cap stock and hold it until more than 4% price growth. I only pay $1 per trade so I am not concerned about commission. Is this good way of investing and if yes when should I buy? Thanks in advance…..
Is a EuroPacific Growth Fund a good Investment? I am in my early twenties and through my job I can start a 403(b) retirement plan. I am interested in investing in the EuroPacific Growth Fund from American Funds, is that a good investment?

How do I find the exponential growth? The value of a particular investment follows a pattern of exponential growth. In the year 2000, you invested money in a money market account. The value of your investment "t" years after 2000 is given by the exponential growth model A=4500e^0.068t How much did you initially invest in the account? Wow. That shows how fried my brain is from studying. I thought way too much into that problem. Hah. Thanks!
difference between investing in IPO and non IPO for mutual fund? If i invest 5000 Rs in a new IPO mutual fund , is it better than invetsing Rs 5000 in an established good mutual fund? In a new mutual fund we get 500 units but maybe in an established mutual fund for 5000 Rs we get only 50 units. But does it make any difference for growth fund?
What would be the best way to invest a million dollars for both income and long term growth? Let's say you won the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes and got the million dollar grand prize. What would be the best way to invest it to not only produce an income for yourself, but also to make the principle grow to build a legacy for future generations. I understand the concept of diversification, but picking stocks seems kind of like a crap shoot. Taking it to a finacial advisor may be better, but they often appear to be wrong plus they charge commisions. Mutual funds seem like a good idea as long as the loads aren't too high. Tax free municiple bonds seem like an idea that is worth looking into. Any ideas are welcome. I'm not looking for professional advice (although that would be great). I'm just looking for opinions and ideas that may have worked for other people in the past. Any horror stories about disasterous investments are welcome too.
How do I determine an annual percentage growth rate for an investment? I invested $500 on April 2nd, and as of the 30th, it had grown to $538...I know that is a 7% (or so) increase so far, but how do I figure out what the annual growth rate is, based on those numbers, and what formula would I use to do so? Thanks! My assumption was that (taking this as one month passed for simplicity)..a 7% growth rate in one month would be equivalent to an 84% growth rate in one year..
I was thinking should I invest my spare money into growth of my business or just put them into a mutual fund? I have some spare money and I was pondering if I should invest them into mutual funds or invest back into my business. (Note that I invest max into my retirement funds already.) The money in question are above my retirement investment. I am a special events entertainer (my blog: http://mylifeandart.typepad.com/ ) The nature of my business is such that it is not really capital intensive. It is labor intensive. Of course, I can hire assistants and delegate a lot of my tasks to them and that will probably will give a boost to my business growth. But managing other people is a task in itself. So, I just think to put my spare money into mutual funds and keep doing what I have been doing, all my myself. Any of your thoughts would be highly appreciated.
I Have $1500 I want to start investing with? What stocks are the best? Looking to invest a small amout of money for the next 4-5 years while in college but am looking for good solid companies. I already put $500 into CC and UDW and have lost money because I was so intrigued by the buyout. 35% loss later I'm here looking to invest even more into solid companies with a lot of room for growth.
When approaching emerging markets, do you prefer growth or value countries? Without regard to individual companies, on the macro, no two emerging markets are alike. That being so, in general (i.e. regardless of size, population, GDP), when you are looking for a country in which to invest, do you prefer countries that have a more established market, like a Brazil, Poland, or Russia, and can offer more of an "emerging value" atmosphere, or do you prefer a less established market, like a Bulgaria, Peru, or Georgia, which can offer more of an overall growth potential as the market becomes more developed? I'm really anxious to discuss this topic at length, so I would be glad to offer more information if required.
What trade policy would increase economic growth? If economic growth is caused by increasing the per capita, capital investment per worker (Von Mises), what trade policy would encourage capitalists (entrepreneurs) to invest their capital in the United States? Would free trade not encourage them to invest their capital in foreign nations where labor it cheaper and regulations less strict, and then freely import their products back to the United States? And since the dollars are being "repatriated" though the purchase of debt instruments (MBS and government debt primarily) how could free trade possibly be beneficial? (note: Please address my question, and do not go off on a tangent about specialization, which has nothing to do with my question and would occur no matter what trade policy is implemented.) Arcanum, Is that "investment" the purchase of existing assets, or is it the creation of new production centers (increasing the capital investment per worker)? It seems to me that the "re-investment" that is not simply financing our debt, is the purchase of existing assets which only result in the transfer of corporate profits to foreigners. Zehra M, Your answer does not address my question in any way, and I'm not asking a homework question. I'm trying to figure out how people compartmentalize and justify free trade based on the basic free market principle that growth comes from increasing the per capita, capital investment per worker. I'm starting to think that free trade advocates do not understand their own philosophy though.
How do you write the exponential growth function? The question was: If $5000 is invested at an interest rate k, compounded continuousy and grow to $6953.84 in 6 years. I got the interest rate at k = 5.5% From 6953.84 = 5000 e ^k(6) 6953.84/5000 = e^(6k) ln (6953.84/5000) = ln e^(6k) = 6k ln e ln (6953.84/5000) =6k k = 1/6 ln (6953.84/5000) k = 0.054976 or rounded k=0.055 (3d.p.) k = 5.5% What and how do you write the exponential growth function? Is it in this answer already?

Is 2008 a good time to start investing in Mutual Funds? Alright, I am 26 years old and am interested in investing my money (Roth IRA Mutual Funds). I am a huge Dave Ramsey fan and when I listen to him on the radio, it always seems that no matter what the condition of the market, he tells people to invest in growth mutual funds with good track records. This is all good but with all of the talk to us moving into a recession, does anyone think I should stick my money into CD (currently around 5%) and invest into mutual funds at a later date? Thank you.
Im 25, want to invest 1,000 for one year growth? Whats the best way for me to invest my tax refund, which will be 1.2k dollars. Im looking to grow it over one year and then spend it at the end of the year. I already started investing last year, I currently have 1.5k in the market, and have thus far seen 7% growth, I want to beat that with my refund money, would it make sense to put it all into one high-performing stock? My portfolio right now consists of a wide mix of stocks, with no more than $100 in any one stock..
Investing in 2008, Good Time to Start? I am 26 years old and I am going to start putting money into a RothIRA. I have the money to max it out for the year but I am a little skeptical of putting it in RIGHT NOW. I am a huge Dave Ramsey fan and although he says "don't time the market", I feel I might be throwing money away. Besides my initial lunge, I don't want to time the market and am in it for the long haul. Also like Dave says, when I do invest, I will be investing in Good Growth Stock Mutual Funds. Currently, the money is in a online Bank Account making 2.75%. I know this is a small number but it sure beats negative numbers...like my 401k. I realize that noone can accurately tell when the market is going to turn around and I'm not trying to time it so I invest when it is the absolute lowest. I just don't want to put any money into a sinking ship. Thank you for our advise.
Growth mutual funds? Does anyone have any suggestions for growth mutual funds that invest in U.S. stocks?
What should I be investing into my 401K and what are these options? I am 26 years old and I have a 401K with no idea how to invest. Investing tips?? Hi, I am in my early twenties and started working after college for couple years already. I would like to accumulate wealth as early as possible and hopefully have an early retirement. After having saved enough money, and having had some surplus funds, I thought it would be financially wise to start investing this surplus fund for long-term growth. I have an investment horizon of more than 10 years, so I decide to invest in stocks for the highest possible long-term returns. I intend to take a value-investing approach towards my investments. Does anyone out there have any undervalued stock recommendations? Thanks
Should I invest for income or for growth? If I am a grad student in my late twenties and won't be working for a few years and have $150,000 to invest, would it be better to invest it in a portfolio designed to generate income in order to help with living expenses while im in college. Or would it be better to put $50,000 to the side for living expenses and invest $100,000 in mostly equity?
Roth IRA or growth mutual fund? I am currently married and my wife and I wondering if we should open Roth IRA's for each one of us or put our money together and invest in a no load growth mutual fund. I know the mutual fund would be taxed every year but I think we could compound more money this way in the mutual fund and later roll the funds into a Roth IRA. What is the best way to deal with this situation?
simple interest with linear growth?or compound w expontial? If you were to invest $1000 today to save for your retirement in about 50 years, would you want to invest it in an account that paid 10% simple interest with linear growth, or would you want to invest it in an account that paid 5% compound interest with exponential growth?
