Commodity Investing Knowledge Base
Does anyone have any information on commodity investing and or trading they can pass on to me? I would like to become an investor, and am looking for something simple to get into. I have been told that commodities are one of the easiest methods to begin, yet I know no one doing so. Any advice, help, tips, or detours to something a little more simple will do for me as I plan to follow some through the next year and begin investing around the end of next year or the beginning of 2009
Commodity Investing in India? Jim Rogers suggests INVESTING in commodities. But I am not sure how one does that. For example sugar is low priced now and will remain so even into the next year-how does one take advantage of this? Can the method of commodity indexes of passive investing be replicated on a smaller scale by us?Is it possible to buy low and then sell later as with stocks? NB:Neither Jim Rogers book nor commodity index funds are available where I am.As for ETF there is only an ETF for gold.
Will increasing margin/capital requirements in commodity investing hurt the "Average Joe investor"? With the increases in gas prices, I've tried coping with such by buying an ETF that invests in oil futures (ticker: OIL.) When OIL spikes in price, I sell some shares and uses the profits to pay for the higher gas at the pump. It's not a perfect solution but I've been managing to hedge the increases in gas prices for quite some time this way. Now, if the gov't wants to increase the margin or capital requirements to invest in commodities, will this affect me in any way? Will I still have access to these investment vehicles such as ETFs that invest in commodities? It seems that institutional investors can easily meet the new margin requirements while barring the Average Joe from profitting from the commodities bubble; the Average Joe will still be paying higher prices AND yet, he cannot take advantage of the commodities bubble any longer. I'm concerned about the situation but my knowledge is limited.. please offer a rebuttal.
Question about investing in Brent crude oil? I'm thinking of investing long time in Brent crude oil certificates such as RICI Enhanced Brent Crude Oil Quanto Open End. These appear to be a simple way of investing in the oil price. It's predicted that North Sea oil will run out in the next 20 years. This may be a strange question but what is likely to happen to the certificate price? Will the price rise and then crash because there is simply no oil left to sell or what exactly happens when you invest in a commodity which runs out? Please note that unless something very strange happens I expect the world oil price to rise. The question is about Brent crude, not world oil as a whole.
What kind of market am I investing in if I invest in Gold Savings? What kind of market would I be investing in if I keep part of my wealth in gold. Is it the commodity market? But in commodity markets, people buy and sell Contracts. Therefore, I don't think keeping part of my savings in gold is similar to investing in commodity market. Any ideas?

Can anyone tell me the best way to get OUT of the market and get INTO gold? I am convinced our dollar will collapse catastrophically and only those with gold stand a chance at even surviving without being a ward of the state and enslaved. Your help is appreciated.
do you think now is the worst time in history to be investing? Stock market close to all time highs, prospects not good ... Oil/metals / soft commodities at record highs Am I just being pessimistic, I mean people in 1986 may have been thinking the same thing. Where are you investing in through these tough economic times? Do you feel like Gold is the only safe investment out there? Right now the US government has lowered the interest to around...oh I don't know....ZERO!!! I would think that commodities would go through the roof if the dollar continues to spiral downwards in 2009. Silver is also undervalued and should have a huge upside in comparison to Gold. Anyways, where are you investing in during these tough economic times?
What are the good commodity stocks? i have around $20 00 to invest. I dont want to take stupid risks with it. Is it better to invest in commodoties or commodity stocks. What are the most popular online commodity brokerage firms? Having invested in stocks for quite sometime, I am thinking to get into the commodity trading world. As a beginner in futures and options on futures, I would like to seek advice on the names of brokerage firms for such investment. I wonder what are the most popular online commodity brokerage firms (like TDAmeritrade for stocks) for setting up “self-directed” accounts with reasonable commissions, fees and requirements for opening accounts. Many thanks.
Is it possible to invest in 401k using precious metal commodity? With the news of uncertainty about the state of financial market in terms of stability, and when it does hit the market hard, the banks facing the catastrophe will not allow withdrawal of cash from the individual and business accounts, will the holding of precious metal in the deposit of the trustworthy holder (mutual fund company or other) allow APY (annual percentage yield) in compound interest on precious metal and jewelry (lucrative gems & rare minerals) holding depending on the current market demand for precious metals (fine gold, silver, platinum, etc)? Or does compound interest apply only to paper currency in saving and investment?
