Beginner Investing? I know absloutely nothing about investing, and don't have much spare cash, but I'd like to know if it's possible to invest a small amount of money and how to go about it. In Australia.
A few questions from a beginner about investing? I have about $20k in savings. I am interested in investing some of it. I am 37 years old and have never invested in stocks or bonds (besides 401k). How do you pick and chose what to invest in? There are obviously so many companies to invest in. Do you reccomend one of the online do it yourself sites? Is there a rule of thumb how much of your life savings you should invest? Thanks.
What is a good place for a beginner to learn about investing in stocks? I would like to start investing, but I have know absolutely nothing about it. Is there a site that I can learn about it? Are there any sites that can arrange stocks by their market price, gains/losses, etc.? Again, I have no clue about it, including how to go about discovering stocks, and how to research them.
Where is the best place to start investing for a beginner? I know very little about the stock market and investing. But I would like to know where the best place to start investing would be with, at the most, 1k. Of course I don't want to dive head first into anything without actually knowing what I'm doing....but I mainly want to get a feel for what my best options are out there. I don't want to set any goals that are too unrealistic.
What do you think about investing in stocks as a beginner? I think the stock market can be a smart thing to experiment in even without much experience, in contrast to most advice given. My reasoning is that you can "practice" picking stocks for a very small amount of money- even under $100. You can buy just 1 stock option and though you won't make much, you won't lose much either and you'll have experience of watching the market. Sure you can argue that you can study the market without putting your money into it, but I think having something on the line- even if it is only a $20 stock option- keeps your attention and diligence. I am inexperienced with stock trading- it's been years since I've owned stock- but I'm smart, I have a financial mind, and I am a quick study. I think I want to take a few hundred dollars and spread it over a handful of well-picked stocks and watch it for a few months to see what happens. Maybe I'll make a profit, maybe I won't. But I'm not risking much. If you disagree, please explain your logic. Thank you! what do you think about zecco.com?
Looking for advice on investing for a beginner. Can you help? I was interested in dabbling a little bit into investing, but i have no clue where to start. Is there someway I can like issue a small percentage of my paycheck to an investment professional and have them put the money where I will get the best results or am i best trying some other method. Please keep in mind that I am talking very small investments here. I make a little around 40K per year and was just wondering if there was a little something i could do with a portion of it.
Beginner to the whole investing Shin-dig? Hi there, So I'm an 18 year old college sophomore looking to save up for med school. Thing is because of today's crippled economy a steady job isn't really that easy to come by. I have some money saved up and thought I'd put it to work. A friend tells me the best thing to do (other than CDs and savings accounts--which have DREADFUL rates, by the way) is to invest it in the market. So I'm here to take up his offer. However, before I even attempt to pretend that I know what I'm doing, I wanted to read up on "playing the stock market". So here are my humble requests: 1) Do you know of any good sources for literature on the stock market? Do books outweigh the available online sources? What are your recommendations? 2) I heard there was a stock market "game" online and I think it would be a good way to test my knowledge. Is it worth the effort or should I just "jump in"? 3) If you were me, how would you start investing your money? Where would you put it? And how much of it? Thanks!
How do you profit from investing into stocks? I'm looking into investing in the stock market, because its something ive always wanted to do. But i would like to know how and when do you start seeing profits from investing, and when you do see the profits are you liable to touch that money at the moment or are you supposed to let sit there for awhile. I know this might sound funny but i'm a real real beginner. I just dont want to do anything that I'm going to regret.
Good investing books for beginner? I am interesting in investing in stocks. What are some good, basic books... Please DO NOT list websites!! I want some actual books that I can read.
What would you suggest as the best way for a beginner to start investing $50,000? I am a newly single parent of 2. My previous partner & I are expecting to close on an investment property we are selling in April. My share of the profits is over $50,000. I have never invested before & was counting on my ex partner to invest & manage the entire profit. Now I have to learn about how to do this myself. I am looking for suggestions on books to read, legitimate money management courses, suggestions on how to avoid scams, etc. I've read Kiyosaki & The Millionaire Next Door. I have a basic knowledge of finances & investing. I know a little about stocks & real estate. am a newly single parent of 2. I am new to investing in stocks. Which is best for a beginner...Sharebuilder, Sogoinvest, or Firstrade? I do not have the thousands of dollars most companies need as a minimum. I will not be putting alot in the market or be tracking stocks on the regular, but I want to start somewhere. I understand that bothe Sharetrader and SogoInvest have automatic options, Sharetrader is $4 to buy and $16 to sell. Sogoinvest is $3 to buy, and $3 to sell. It seems to be a no brainer, but I have heard only good things about Sharebuilder and few things about Sogoinvest...plus Sogoinvest requires a $500 minimum. Please give me the pros and cons of each. I am also looking at Firstrade as an alternative...from what I have read, it is geared more to an intermediate/advanced user, and is more expensive than the other two. Any help would be appreciated. Well, I looked in the Bank of America advise (I have a Bank of America Campus Edge account also)...Their rate is $10...not $5. I really wanted to go with Zecco, but I am not comfortable puting in $2500 into a company that's as new as it is. Therefore, I am focussing on Sharebuilder and Sogoinvest. I feel these are my best bet. Sharebuilder is so darn high in terms of selling, but I believe your money earns interest as it sits, has been around longer, and the website seems easy to navigate. Sogoinvest is super cheap to sell, but is fairly new to the game, and the website isnt as clean in my opinion. Now, the question is...which of these two my best bet? Keep in mind that I plan on a "buy and hold" strategy with the occasional (if that) sell once I get the swing of playing the stock market. I also have a 401K plan that is my primary security blanket. This little venture will serve as a secondary nest egg.

The only problem is I have NO IDEA where to start... any suggestions?
Beginner in investing...stocks, mutuals, ETF...which do I choose? I just graduated from college and got a job, but no 401k is offered, so I wanted to try saving up my money on the side. The problem is, I have no idea where to start or what a stock even entails. Can anyone explain to me in VERY BASIC TERMS what a stock, mutual/index fund, ETF (and anything else I might want to consider) is and which one might be good to start with? Thank you in advance! I know there are many websites online explaining the differences between all of these, but I get really confused with the jargon, which is why I need someone to explain in basic terms. Thanks :)
What is a good acoustic guitar for a beginner? Should i invest big? Is a Gibson/Epiphone all right? I'm 16 and just enrolled in a guitar course in school. I'm very serious about purchasing one that i can use that is durable and has great sound. I can't decide on a brand tho. i'm looking at a Gibson/Epiphone on ebay for two hundred. Seller is 99.7% positive feedback. Would this be a good beginner? Or would it be a lot of upkeep? Can i take it wherever (e.g. to a friend's to play, to my school for class, etc.)? If you have any specific brands or models i would appreciate it. Thank you.
Question about beginners investing and starting a roth IRA? Im in my late teens, and I have about a grand to my name in a checking account. Lately, Ive been thinking about taking a very very small portion of that, and investing it into stock. Fun, successful stock, like Coke or Disney, nothing risky, so i can make a profit. But how do I go about doing that? Do i need to meet with an investor? Also, even though im slowing building up my social security with my job, I want to start a Roth IRA and invest a small amount every pay period, for my retirement Its imporant to me to save money and use it wisely, because I've seen family members deal with tough financial times, and it realy sucks! HOW DO I GET STARTED? And how do i convince my mom that this is a good idea w/o her thinking im crazy?!

What should a beginner investor invest in? I am 18 and going off to college next year. I would like to start investing my money. I have a significant amount of money in the bank for someone of my age with very little debt. I would like to start investing with Sharebuilder . I would be willing to take a higher risk to grow a chunk of money faster over the next 5 years. But also I would like to invest in lower risk ETF's or stocks to grow money for over the longer term. Any recommendations? Should I make one larger investment now or smaller monthly investments? Thanks for everyones info. I guess I should have put that I was looking more for specific stocks/etf's to invest in at this time. I have actually done a lot of research prior to today about investing in general.
Books on investing for beginners? Hey everyone :-) I would like to know if anyone knows of any good books that will help someone with the process of investing. Mind you, the book(s) is (are) for someone who knows absolutely nothing about investing and wants to learn from scratch. So no fancy lingo or jargon and all that. Something nice and simple. And yes...I'm checking Amazon too :)

Beginner: Stocks or Mutual Funds? I am in my mid 20s, and have always been curious about how to invest and how stocks or mutual funds work. I have thought of putting my money into the bank for a GIC... but they don't make you a lot of money and the interest rates are highest 3%-5%, and you can't move your money around. A few questions: 1. If I wanted to invest as a beginner, which would have the most potential in having a higer return in the LEAST amount of time, stocks or mutual funds, or some other type of investments? 2. How much money should I invest?? I don't have tens of thousands of dollars at my age, but I do have some money saved up. 3. Should I go to a company? A broker? Or do it myself by reading and researching online?? Thank you :)

Stock Market for a Beginner? I have never ever done any kind of investments, stocks, bonds, or whatever its all called. Ive always been interested in it, and always wanted to learn as much as I could about it. I am a complete idiot when it comes to the stock market, dont know anything, and so far online all I can find are articles for people who already know the basics of investing. And even when I find something for a true beginner, I still cant understand where its coming from and what I have to do to learn. If anyone has personally used a good book or DVD, that basically went from step one, to the last step of personal investing, even if its a few books to make a set, please let me know about them and tell me what they were like. Also I know a lot of people that have had someone invest for them, and they have profited quite a bit, but Im hard headed and am the kind of person that wants to learn and practice what Im interested in, not have someone do it for me. Thanks for any advice, appreciate it.
Investing 75K, what should I do with it? I sold a house through probate and am getting about 75K in a month. I'm 24 and I don't know anything about investing, but I know that I want to put that money somewhere and I don't need to be able to touch it for awhile (I'm taking out a chunk of money ahead of time for emergency use). Does anyone have any suggestions? Again, I am trying to read about investing and I really want to keep this simple and play it safe. Websites or advice for a beginner would be appreciated, thanks!
Good ways to start investing money? I'm 19 and a Pre-Business student in college. I was wondering what are some good ways to start investing money with a small about (Around $1,000)? Aside from very safe bets with lower returns (such as CDs), what are some good choices for quick returns without a lot of risk? Where to begin investing in stocks? Are there any websites that let you trade for very cheap? Is day-trading a good idea? I am a very basic beginner, so any help would be great. I'd prefer short-term cash return (definately less than a year). Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks
Buying stock and investing? Hi, I want to start investing but I really don't know where to start. I like the idea of buying stock and have a decent amount of information on how it works (basically buy a growing co. then sell when you feel the time is right). I don't even know where to start really, what site to use, how to even do it. I would greatly appreciate if one can go through the steps with me and give me some tips that I can use to help me as a beginner.
What books would you recommend for investing on the stock markets? I'm about to start investing on the stock market and I'm looking for some books that could deepen my knowledge in this field. I'm not a complete beginner as I have a masters degree in finance. However, I feel that I would need additional resources in order to develep my own strategy of individual stock picking. On Amazon.com I see tons of books of this subject, but it is very hard to decide, which one is worth to buy/read. I've read "Edwin Lefèvre -- Reminiscences of a Stock Operator". Very good book indeed.
