Is investing in the Blackstone Group(BX) like investing in a mutual fund? Hello everyone. I wanted to see if I could get input from anyone that knows anything about the Blackstone Group(BX). I was looking at their stock and it almost seems like a mutual fund but without any expense ratios or management fees. They invest in so many different companies across different sectors. They seem to be a very diverse company. Also their shares are at a great price thanks to the messed up stock market. Is investing in this company like investing in a well diversified mutual fund? I would appreciate info from anyone who has knowledge. Thanks!

In mutual fund investing, does the investor have a choice of specifying his area of preffered investments ? I am planning to invest Rs 50,000 for the next 5 yrs in mutual funds of a corporate house. I want 40 % of my investments to be put in construction, 30% in steel, 20% in cement & 10 % in chemicals. However, is it a must for the fund manager to invest a significant portion of my investments in software sector for getting a high return ? Will the mutual fund house listen to my requirements or do they feel their pattern of investment will give higher yields than my required investment pattern ?
What are the disadvantages of buying annuities vs investing in a no load mutual fund? I am 58 and my husband is 53 . After raising our 3 kids we have about 25K saved. We thought of buying a single payment annuity so that we can receive payments for life. We do not know how much a month we will get and whether it would be better just invest in a no load mutual fund like Fidelity Retirement fund Which approach will serve our purpose better We have no other retirement except social security in a few years( I plan to take social security at 62 but I might have to work until 66 . My husband plans to take his at 62.

Can you make money investing in mutual funds? I have money in a 529 plan and an IRA. I understand those and their tax implications. I don't understand how you make money from investing in mutual funds just normally and the tax implications. If a mutual fund sells something... then you have to pay taxes on it? I am not quite sure how that process works. I know Vanguard has funds, but I'm not sure how investing in them without the tax benefits from the IRA and such can help me. Thank you.
Mutual Fund Investing - Vanguard or T. Rowe Only - Advice Wanted? I need some advice with my 2 questions below. I'm 22 years old and have some extra money I want to invest. I'm looking into 1 or 2 long term (40+ years) mutual funds only from Vanguard or T. Rowe. 1.) Which funds should I consider? Note: I already have maxed out my Vanguard Roth IRA (Target 2050) and have some money in the following T. Rowe funds: Capital Appreciation, New Era, and Equity Income. 2.) Should I close any of these 3 funds and put the money somewhere more aggressive (e.g. Vanguard's Global Equity, T. Rowe's Emerging Mkts, etc ?) Thanks for your help.

I'm in my early 30s, and i'm really interested in making my money work for me. Is investing in mutual funds and stocks the same thing? People have told me due to my high level of risk that I should invest most of my money in stocks. I know my bank offers mutual funds and IRA's but I am not sure if they offer stocks. If I have no stock investing experience then should I hire a broker to do it for me or should I just stick with aggressive mutual funds? Are stocks and mutual funds the same thing? What is an example of a stock?

Should I invest in more than one mutual fund? Hi, I'm interested in investing in mutual fund from vanguard and was wondering if I should invest in more than one mutual fund. I've been reading up a lot about investing and need some opinions from users. I understand that diversification is the key, but does that includes mutual funds too or just stocks? because mutual funds already are a collection of various stocks and bonds. thanks in advance.
Which mutual fund advisors invest in their own mutual funds? I was wondering if there is a list anywhere of mutual funds, where the mutual fund advisor has a significant stake in the mutual fund that they advise? Often the 'investment advisors / fund manager' to a mutual fund have zero risk, they advise, and get a management fee as a % of net assets, irrespective of the actual performance of the fund. If the fund manager themselves owned large parts of the fund I would think they would be better aligned with mutual fund shareholders.
Mutual Fund? (Q1) Everybody talks about investing money in Mutual Fund. suppose, you want to invest some money in Mutual Fund (CLOSE ENDED for 3 years say) (say in HDFC Tax saving Mutual Fund). How you will be paid your return after 3 years ? does the Mutual Fund company AUTOMATICALLY sends your profit(if any) by cheque to your home address ? who pays the return(profit) ? i am confused, how one will get the return(profit) ? (Q2) Now suppose, suppose, you want to invest some money in Mutual Fund (OPEN ENDED i.e you can withdraw money at any time...right ?) . now, say you want to discontinue after 3 Months. what you have to do ? i have read ...you have to "sell the Mutual Fund" ....but selling to whom ? how do i get the customer to sell? is it necessary to sell ? if i dont sell but want to withdraw what will happen ? very much confused. ------------------------------------------- can you please clarify my some more doubts ? which is better mode of investment ? (1)with dividend or without dividend ? (2)close ended or open ended ? -------------------------------------- i have also read a fact , that suppose you invested some mone to a MF fund company. but the MF company ruined and could not survive....thats means, you are not getting any profit...right ? your money is gone....correct ? well ok....but the most stunning fact and dangerous thing i have read is that you have to sell your furnitures,TVs,Computers and other household things to pay off the MF company . because , they say,...you too have the liability as the company ruins so you also ruin. is this fact true ?
mutual fund??? what about tata new mutual fund?? what is the price per unit??? how much we can buy minimum unit?? shall i invest in tata mutual fund or any others????

Would you keep investing in a mutual fund even with the current market? The market is going down and experts are talking of a recession. Is it smart to keep my bi-monthly investments in a mutual fund or should I stop contributing right now? I definately do not plan on selling, but dont know if I should keep buying either. I am invested in Vanguard Star fund and will expect to use this money in about 8 years. Would a recession typically recover by then? The investing is in addition to a sizeable emergency fund and a retirement account I already have. I am not too emotionally tied but dont want to make any stupid moves either. I am 24 if that matters on a time horizon

Is fund invested in mutual fund taxable? I had been suggested to invest in mutual fund coz here one can get better rate of interest than fund invested in fix deposit scheme, however someone told me that the capital amount, which means the entire fund invested by me in mutual fund is taxable when the fund will be maturing, which is not applicable when some one deposit an amount in fixed deposit scheme. I want to know is it true or false?
Selective Investing within a Mutual Fund... is it possile? I have recently purchased an index mutual fund (S&P 500). Everytime I buy shares I buy mini-shares in each of the 500 underlying companies. Is there an investment vehical out there that is similar to mutual funds but allows customization of assett allocation within the fund... for example, I realize for the mutual fund to be it has to have a set of stocks. That's fine, now lest say I don't agree with buying stocks from 3 of the 500 I have on my list... I would like to change my assett allocation to such so that zero dollars go to the 3 and the remaining is spread across the rest. I am not sure if ETFs would do this or not... so far I am unaware of how to do this without simply just buying stocks (but then the broker fees will crush me).
Mutual fund? Does the mutual fund manager tell where he is investing our money? I mean the names of the companies

Good Book to read for Stock and Mutal Fund investing? Am looking for a decent book to get me started on buying/selling of stocks, bonds and mutual fund investing. I really don't have much experience in investing (apart from what I read in business magazines). I have so extra money in my savings that I want to invest, but would love to gain more experience before I throw the money down the drain. So please recommend any books you have read that would help a novice for investing. THANKS!
