What are the best books to give to a kid or teenager to help teach them about investing?
Any suggestions?

- go to Motley Fool website pretend he or she has 100,000 you can list stocks to watch AS THOUGH you really own them see if she can make enough to live on from that. If she can for a few years, maybe time to borrow the money and stake her to it. Anything by Warren Buffet, How to Buy Stocks was one my Dad loaned me when I was 13 or so. Louis Engel or something like that I think
- No books. They won't be reality to a kid/teen. My Dad taught me about investing by showing me how when I was a kid. After college, when I was introduced to 401(k)s and investing, I knew what they were and I had the foundation to make good decisions.
- Why not give them some real money to play with, cheap-skate? ;-)
- you could probably find an investing for dummies book they have one for almost everything but it will probably be boring, and the kid might not understand it but in any case it can't hurt to look
- search the internet. there are plenty of websites that will give you definitions of financial terms. you first have to know what a mutual fund is before you can start investing. once you understand the vehicles and what they accomplish, then you go to the library and pick out a book. just read financial websites. read. read. read.
- The book Quicksilver by Neil Stephenson is a very funny and very interesting book and while the main point is not at all about investing one of the chacters spends a good deal of time investing and it explains the history of money & credit in the book as well. Very useful things to know and the book made it fun to learn!
- CUNA has set up a free website just to teach young children about money! You can find it at www.cuna.org in the consumer information section. They also have personal finance tips and a section on investing on the consumer information page. Hope this helps!
- The One Minute Millionaire CD series and biography of Bill Gates "Hard Drive." The Gates biography because it teaches the key lessons about the fun and rewards of serving others; Gates did this better than anyone and that is why he has been rewarded best. The One Minute Millionaire because it has a bias for real estate and that is a safer, more profitable investment than anything else. Also "Rich Dad, Poor Dad" for similar reasons. Congratulations for teaching your teenagers. I have shared these with mine as my parents left me clueless and I have paid dearly for that.
- Go to SuzeOrman.com and get them her Young Rich And Fabuously (sp) Broke book. It's really aimed at teenagers and young adults. I think if they're gonna read anything, they'll read this. Happy New Year!
- Get The Millionaire Next Door by Thomas J. Stanley Learn what real millionaires are like.
- There's a board game (it's not cheap) called Cashflow 101. It's available from Robert Kiyosaki's company. He authored Rich Dad Poor Dad, and, The Cashflow Quadrant, both of which are also excellent books, but the best learning is accomplished by doing, which is why he designed the Cashflow 101 board game.
