Any good books on investing?

I just went to the book store to pick up a book on investing (stocks, mutual funds for the long term or any general knowledge as I am a newbie). I noticed that there are a lot of books out there. I know it takes discipline, time and research to invest properly. So I just want some knowledge to make some proper decisions in the future when I am ready. I wanted to know what you guys out there read and recommend. Thanks!

  1. The starter book should be Bogle on Mutual Funds by John Bogle, founder of Vanguard. After that, the series of several books by Larry Swedroe. Also, start reading the Diehards Forum on Morningstar.com. There is a lot of junk out there. Be careful!
  2. Hi, As you are beginner you should read certainly following books: Technical Analysis by Jack D. Schwager; Comprehensive Course on The Wave Principle by A.J. Frost and Robert Prechter; Trading Chaos – Applying Expert Techniques to Maximize Your Profit by Bill Williams; New Trading Dimensions by Bill Williams Also good books Candlestick Charting Explained- Timeless Techniques for Trading Stocks and Futures by Gregory L. Morris; and Market Wizards by Jack D. Schwager Good luck

  4. The Visual Investor, by John Murphy How to Make Money on Stock, by William O'neill
  5. "Real Money", by Jim Cramer. He also comes on everyday at 6:00 pm on CNBC. He is entertaining as well as an educator.
  6. I think the best book is "The Little Book that Beats the Market" by Joel Greenblatt. This is a book on value investing that discusses the 2 most important criteria for picking stocks: low PE and high return-on-capital. There is a website that has stocks that meet his criteria: www.magicformulainvesting.com The following is a portfolio of stocks that currently meet his criteria: http://www.top10traders.com/ViewPortfolio.aspx?userID=92 This portfolio is from http://www.top10traders.com - this is a free site that lets you create a portfolio of stocks with $100,000 in "play" money. Each day the site ranks the best performing portfolios, so you can see how your picks perform compared to other investors. You can also read posts on investing from the best traders, as well as share your own investing ideas. Here are this month's best traders: http://www.top10traders.com/Top10Standings.aspx
  7. "Common Stocks and Uncommon Profits" by Philip Fisher. Warren Buffett recommends him. Robert Kiyosaki books.
