Where to invest 10k for short term?

I am looking for a place to invest 10k for the short term. I need an investment that might earn about 6 to 7% annually, but it doesn't need to be fixed income. Something with low risk such as A Money Market Fund or Bond Fund. I have this money sitting in my ING account and it's earning about 4.5% right now, but I'd like to do a little bit more with it. This is our so called "emergency fund" so I don't want to take alot of risk with it. I already have seperate investment and retirement accounts that I am taking a bit longer term approach with.

  2. Money market or high interest investment account. Pour all future reserve funds into this account and never take a dime from it until you have your ducks in a row with a detailed investment strategy. Once you have more funds available, more investment opportunities will be available to you. Good luck to you and your wallet!
  3. leave it in a bank for now & enjoy hassle free 4.5% or shop around for a better Money Market account. No equities!!! www.letsgobble.com
  4. Consider the Vanguard Prime Money Market Fund with a current yield of 5.10%: https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/FundsSnapshot?FundId=0030&FundIntExt=INT If you are in a high tax bracket you may prefer their tax exempt money market funds: https://flagship.vanguard.com/VGApp/hnw/FundsByType Sometimes other institutions will have a higher teaser rate, but Vanguard tends to have the highest yields I've found. You are not going to find a low risk investment that pays 6-7% in today's interest rate environment.
