What is an annual dividend in the stock market?

I have to invest in a company for a school project. then i have to write a paper on why i choose that company.One of the questions asks "what was the annual dividend for the year if they had any?" So can you tell me what the annual dividend is and WHERE I CAN FIND IT. Ten points to the person who answers this CORRECTLY.

  2. You could look up the stock of any company, like Microsoft and the dividend will be in their shareholder information. A dividend is a return on the investment. If the company did really well, they might give a dividend of 80 cents per share, or two dollars or whatever. If they did lousy but still made a little bit of money, the dividend might be 2 cents. If they did really crappy your whole investment goes down.
  3. I know this seems like a lot of work, but you could look it up in Yahoo! Finance...(LOL) Click on Yahoo (up there to the left), then on Finance, to get to here: http://finance.yahoo.com/ then enter the company's stock symbol, and right there under "Div & Yield" will be the annual dividend amount in dollars and what "yield" that represents (or waht percentage return the stock is giving through just dividends, not through growth) Good luck!
