Would investing in Exxon be a good strategy right now?

I am new to the whole investing scheme, and I was wondering would buying into Exxon Mobile(XOM) be a good idea in our current economic climate? My father, who I trust a lot, is recommending Exxon, but I wanted to get as many opinions as possible. Stock prices are pretty low and I was thinking they will only go up. Do any of you know good information about Exxon's business policy?

  5. The guy who's telling you to go short means well, but that will probably cost you money. Exxon (XOM) is good. Two things that will cause XOM to go up in the weeks ahead is - that the market is on the rebound and XOM is listed on the Dow Jones Industrial Average. The index impacts the stocks within it. - Crude oil is likely to break above 50/barrel price resistance which would favor oil stocks. Exxon web site: http://ir.exxonmobil.com/phoenix.zhtml?c=115024&p=irol-irhome It's good as a 2-5 year investment. Like most blue chip stocks XOM also pays quarterly dividends.
