How hard is it to learn the Guitar?
I have never played a musical instrument before, but for some reason I have this strong urge to try learning the acoustic guitar. How difficult is it to learn, and can it be done without lessons? What is a cheap beginner guitar with OK quality? I do not want to invest a lot of money into something i am just testing.

- The acoustic guitar can be relatively easy to learn. Some people find it easier than others. I am learning to play the guitar on my own without lessons. A cheap, beginner guitar is fine if you're just testing it. If you plan on getting serious about playing, you should upgrade to something more sophisticated. But I found the piano much easier to learn how to play than the guitar. It just varies from person to person.
- Yes, you can teach yourself how to play or you can buy books that will teach you step by step how to play. The hardest thing about learning to play is getting your fingers use to the strings and knowing where to place them. Samick is a cheap brand for acoustic guitars.
- Do you have any friends that play? If you do have them give you some pointers. Go to a pawn shop and get a cheap guitar to start. Have a friend help you choose one. You can get a half way decent guitar for around $100 Get a cheap lesson book at your local music store. get some music for some of your favorite songs, and practice EVERY DAY if it is possible for 30 minutes a day. Your finger tips will get sore and peel, then callous over but you will see improvement in 2 weeks. Also you should learn how to read regular music as well as tablature and chord diagrams. the most important thing to remember is to have fun with it. Use it as a way to relax.
- I tell you many of the ones who tell you how easy it is are the same ones who think cause they read a tab or know 2 chords , they can play the guitar To learn it properly is rather tough, you will need lessons, unless of course you want to be a member of the crowd I talked about above. In which case , buy any junk guitar and just tell everyone you can play it, don't matter if it is true or not.
- depends on how well you wanna play. just to learn some chords and strum some simple chords aint that hard,,, most songs only got 3 chords anyway its just in a different rhythm and progression. there's hundreds of songs like that. Just get you a cheap guitar at a pawn shop and go on you tube and type in beginner guitar songs or something to that effect... you'll find something you can strum along to. good luck and remember it's supposed to be fun.. thats why they call it playing.
