1. First, it is not just a matter of investing $500,000. With few exceptions (e.g. creating a biz in an area with very high unemployment), the minimum is US$1,000,000. There are no investments in "government projects." There have been some approved "regional centers" with very high unemployment whereby you could invest a minimum of $500,000 if the biz created a minimum of 10 full-time jobs - for Americans, not for relatives. However, a vast amount of fraud has brought this sort of investment under a cloud - and major investigations. This really is not a viable means of obtaining a temporary green card, and is highly unlikely to ultimately result in a permanent green card. Also consider you must have sufficient funds to support yourself and any dependents until the business achieves profitability. So even if you have US$500,000 ready cash to invest, it is not enough! Promissory notes, down payments against the full amount of the investment, etc, are not acceptable. It is these sorts of things which constitute fraud and have brought EB-5 into disrepute. If you are only looking to invest $500,000, have little or no business ownership & management expertise, this really is not a viable alternative for getting a visa to the US and possible temporary green card.
