investing basics?

i want to know what is out there, what are the options and what do they mean, like CDs, mutual funds etc.... CDs are the only things that i know what they are.. but i dont now what the other things mean, or even whats out there, but im pretty sure that i dont want to do anything like stocks... where there is a potential that you can lose a lot of money.... any help is appreciated ps.. i do not have a lot of money... im just starting out, but i dont think you can start investing/saving too early!

  1. Read the following book: "Investing For Dummies." It is a great basic introduction to investing and fun to read.
  2. Talk to a financial advisor at your bank. Almost all banks have them now and there is no charge unless you buy something(stocks, bonds, Mutual funds, etc.). CD's you can get through your bank at no charge but the returns are less. There are many programs where you can put a small amount each payday into a systematic investment plan. Starting early is excelent
