How would I go about learning the basics of investing?

I just graduated high school and want to find something simple to show me the fundamentals of investing.

  1. Investopedia is a pretty good site. However, the best way to learn is to get your feet wet. Open an online brokerage account like Scottrade and start trading in blue chip companies that you are familar with. DON'T START TRADING IN PENNY STOCKS, your chances of getting burned are very high!
  2. I found a couple of books really helpful: Investing for dummies, & Clark Smart by Clark Howard (or something like that) If there are products you like to use or admire - you might want to check out those industries or companies that produce that product. Then you can say that you have first hand knowledge in what you are investing. Good Luck.
  3. fool.com is a great place to start learning.
  4. read up on mutual funds...the best place on the web is vanguard.com. there you can learn
