  1. basically, putting money in something like (real estate &stocks) and leave them appreciate in value and sell them when they go up in value to make a profit (those were examples of long term investments buy and hold for a year and up) short term investments are more for the sophisticated in investing read books on investing......just search any high rated books on investing @amazon i suggest put a $1000 in stocks that r cheap and have the potential to grow
  2. Investing is committing own or other peoples funds in such a way that they bear an interrest or pay a retainer. You can invest in anything - including dreams (called "Futures"). You pay a deposit to buy the instrument e.g. a bond or a stock. Best way is to know what you invest in, and stick to that. others will always tell you that they are doing better than you, but its the same laws that applies here: the other lanes always move faster: They seldom tell you about the losses they take. I started in stocks, but with the Internet it is very quick to get started in commodity trading - just find something you understand why the price fluctuates and where you know of at least one seller or a buyer. You need a license to be sell and buy stock, and perform valuations - so be careful with your answers.Do as instructed, do not be greedy and if you have managed to get out right before the value fell - you are living dangerous. Make it a rule to set funds aside for a rainy day - and donate 10 percent of the profit to a charity. If you cannot afford to donate, get out.
