- There's no quick answer to your questions. Basically you buy shares in a company and when that company does well it shares the profits with shareholders and the price of your shares increases. The market's been really good the last year or so. It took a hit in 2001 when we were attacked, but it's hard to predict. You should study the market and look at all the aspects that successful companies exhibit. That will give you a good idea of which stocks to invest in. Good luck.
