What is better to invest in: Fidelity VIP Growth or Fidelity VIP Contrafund?

I am invested in both but want to move money from one of them into the AIM Energy fund which is doing excellent right now.

  1. If I were you I'd invest in all 3. I have several accounts with Fidelity and have been thinking of doing the same. I would spread the money evenly into each - 1/3. Then if one is doing badly the other is doing well. It is safer in this market to be diversified.
  2. This is an annuity. Fees on annuities are ridiculous. Unless you're in an extremely high tax bracket with "estate" issues... (or forced by a rip off 401K Annuity)..... you shouldn't be in either. (I like 401K's.... just not 401K annuities). Fidelity has many good funds. Stay away from the "VIP" series. As far as the AIM Energy fund is concerned. Funds that have done extremely well often attract the general novice investor just before they tank. If you're putting 5% or less of your assets into this.... it may be an "OK" idea. It really depends on your "asset allocation" model. Assuming you've made an "asset allocation" model for yourself...... stick with it!!!!!!!! (if not....... learn about them ASAP.............. it will stop you from making drastic mistakes.... like running after the "hot" sector funds.............................
